The capitol, Argostoli, is a 20 minute drive from the villa. Here you will find bustling fresh fruit and fish markets on the quayside. There are some excellent grocers and baker shops too. There's plenty of tavernas, cafes and resturants to choose from and its home to an array of bijou boutiques, jewellers and craft shops. Further afield are Venitian fortresses and monasteries, Byzantine churches, underground Mycean Tombs and the remains of a Roman villa dating back to 1200BC. Visit underground lakes and caves. Take a wine tour up into the beautiful mountains. Kefalonia remains fairly unspoilt and there is a varied selection of good walks - up in the mountains, and along the coasts. The mountains attract many birds; Golden Eagles, Hoopoes, Kesterals and Warbles. Look down from Mount Aenos on the quiet beauty of the island through thick pine forests to the landscape below with the vines, lavender, corn and olive trees and also clusters of orange and lemon groves. Kefalonia has a scenic coastline dotted with sandy beaches and charming villages, which are well worth visiting. Ferries and sailboats run almost daily during the summer months to the neighbouring islands Zacynthos & Ithaca and many of the other small islands.
